Candidate Selection

The candidate selection process helps us find motivated individuals who are ready to commit to the patrol mission. Here's what to expect when you apply to become a patroller at Afton Alps.

About the Process

Candidate selection is the first formal step toward becoming a volunteer ski patroller. Our goal is to find candidates who demonstrate strong skiing and riding ability, a commitment to service, and the character to thrive in a team-oriented, high-stakes environment.

Selection Criteria

Skiing and Snowboarding Ability

Candidates must demonstrate proficient intermediate-to-advanced skiing or snowboarding skills. You'll be evaluated on the hill during a ski assessment.

Commitment

Patrollers are expected to fulfill a minimum number of shifts per season. Candidates should be prepared to make a consistent, ongoing commitment.

Teamwork

Ski patrol is a team effort. We look for candidates who communicate well, support their fellow patrollers, and take direction from leadership.

Character

We seek individuals who are calm under pressure, responsible, and genuinely motivated by service to the skiing and riding  public.

Selection Steps
